Medium-density fibreboard (MDF) is an engineered wood product made by breaking down hardwood or softwood residuals into wood fibres, often in a defibrator, combining it with wax and a resin binder, and forming it into panels by applying high temperature and pressure. 
 
Flameproof or flame retardant MDF is generally used in fire resistant joineries. It has a Class A fire rating meaning that the material will not support combustion and will remain intact for at least 30 minutes of exposure to direct flame from a standard propane torch
